Structure of galaxies

Discussion
leader: Lucio Mayer

discussion topic ideas
(1) What is different and what is not different in the mode of (disk) galaxy formation at high vs. low redshift, and what does that imply about star formation properties?

(2) Which component traces best the early stellar assembly phase in disk galaxies? The bulge or the thick disk? What do they tell us in general about conditions of galaxy formation at hi-z?

(3a) What is the dominant mechanism for the formation of bulges of spirals?

(3b)How can we exploit bulge properties to constrain the effect of feedback(s) and the amount of star formation at high vs. low z?

(4) Is there any evidence that AGN feedback plays an important role in the formation of spiral galaxies (eg bulge properties, SF history)? Or is it a second-order ingredient?

(5) Clumpy galaxies at high-z; where are they today and which property of low-z galaxies carries the imprint of a past clumpy phase?

COFFEE/TEA
Wednesday,
29.07.
MORNING
